At L.E.A.D. Equate, we believe that engaging in research is a fundamental part of teaching and learning.
All too often, schools invest precious time and money in a resource or intervention that they hope will improve the outcomes for their class, or for those needing to catch up, without knowing what alternatives there might be, or what the impact is actually likely to be. Schools are often put off by the idea of research – it sounds like it means doing a masters degree or spending a lot of time reading and theorising. But it’s not. It’s just about looking at practice and making judgements about how effective it is, and then seeing if something else might get the desired outcomes in a better way, with less effort, time or cost. Who doesn’t want that?
We offer opportunities for staff at all levels to engage in research with the chance to share what works (and what doesn’t work) in their classroom. Schools can learn from each other, as well as accessing findings from other teaching schools and educational organisations. There is also the opportunity to contribute to national research projects and publications, ensuring that the findings from our own alliance can add to the national knowledge pool.
